Located on the shores of Nova Scotia’s largest freshwater lake, Cape Breton Lake Cottages are a 15-30 minute drive to music, food, beaches, hiking/biking trails, galleries, as well as two local craft breweries and a single malt whiskey distillery.

Born and raised in Cape Breton, owners Kirk Whalen and his wife Kelley Doyle (of Middleton, NS) sold everything and head home from Alberta to re-establish roots and plan for the future.

Sweat

Built from the ground up, Cape Breton Lake Cottages took shape over 2 years. Owners, family, and more put in countless hours bringing two cedar log cabins to life.

Tears

On May 26, 2020, in the midst of their mandatory COVID-19 isolation, Kelley received the call that their dream was ablaze on the shores of Lake Ainslie.

The log cabins may be gone but the two never gave up and today offer a little taste of heaven in their updated classic cottages which they moved from nearby Margaree.
